Our Story

The most beautiful things come from the most unexpected places.

A design house built on a simple refusal — that style and responsibility should ever have to be a trade.

What We Believe

Designed to be kept.

Dhurthi began with a conviction that the design world had it backwards. That true luxury isn't disposable, and responsibility isn't a compromise. That an object made with enough care — refined in its material, exacting in its finish — earns a place in your life for years, not seasons.

Everything we make starts from that standard. The way we source, refine and craft simply follows from it.

Design Leadership

A standard set in Milan,
made in India.

At the heart of Dhurthi's design is Somil Vakharia, our Design Head. Trained in Milan — one of the few cities where luxury craftsmanship is still treated as a discipline — Somil brings a couture sensibility to a category that rarely sees it.

His brief to the studio is unforgiving in the best way: every silhouette, seam and surface should hold up to the scrutiny of a fine leather house. Proportions are considered. Hardware is intentional. Nothing ships until it feels resolved.

"Every piece should hold up to the scrutiny of a fine leather house."

It's this eye that lets Dhurthi do something unusual — take a material the world discards and finish it to a standard the world covets.

The Material

A material the
world threw away.

The question that shaped Dhurthi wasn't environmental. It was a designer's provocation: what if one of the most durable, characterful materials available was already being thrown away?

It was. Spent tyre tube rubber — tough, supple, naturally waterproof — bound for landfill in enormous volume. In the right hands, refined the right way, it behaves like something far more precious: a deep-grained, matte surface with the hand-feel of premium leather, and none of the animal or chemical cost.

For us, the appeal was never the gesture — it was the material itself. Once refined, it's simply a better thing to build for life with.

From Discard to Refined

Refined, not recycled.

Reclaimed is only the starting point. What happens next is where the value is made.

01

Rescued

Pre- and post-consumer tube rubber is recovered before it reaches landfill.

02

Cleansed

Each piece is thoroughly cleaned and prepared through our proprietary refinement process.

03

Textured

The surface is worked to its signature deep-grained, matte finish.

04

Crafted

Hand-cut and assembled into finished pieces, checked against a single standard: would it earn its place for years?

Made in India

Built by hand,
by people we know.

Every Dhurthi piece is made in India, by skilled local artisans whose craft we depend on and are proud to support. Working closely with these communities lets us pair generations of hand skill with contemporary design — and keep quality consistent as we grow.

Choosing to make this way is deliberate. It sustains livelihoods, keeps traditional craftsmanship alive, and puts a level of care into each piece that automation can't replicate. When you carry a Dhurthi, you're carrying someone's work, done well.

How We Design

Four things every
Dhurthi piece has to be.

01

Built to last.

If it won't outlive the trend, it doesn't ship.

02

Honest in its material.

Refined, never disguised — the material is the point.

03

Quietly refined.

Luxury that doesn't shout. The finish does the talking.

04

Functional first.

Made to be lived with — boardrooms, terminals, long hauls and quiet mornings.

The Proof

Substance behind the style.

We let the standards do the talking. Every claim here is built into the product, not added to the marketing.

100% PETA-Certified Vegan

Free from animal exploitation and toxic tanning chemicals.

Naturally Waterproof & Fungus-Free

Impermeable by design; no mould, no rot, even in tropical humidity.

Industrial-Grade Durability

Scratch-resistant, scuff-proof, made to outlive trends.

A Real Leather Alternative

The look and feel, without the animal or chemical cost.

Diverting Waste from Landfill

Rubber rescued before disposal and given a second life as something worth keeping.

Supporting Local Livelihoods

Built on the craft of skilled artisans across India, whose work we're proud to sustain.

Aligned with the UN SDGs

Responsibility built into how we operate.
